Technology 101 Skills for Teachers
This week I read a blog posting by Shelly Fryer over multiple different ways she incorporates technology into her classroom; along with tips. I found this read incredibly insightful and have gathered a bunch of great new ideas! Shelly has worked with the Oklahoma A Plus Schools for the past three years. She is involved in their workshops which help create an educational environment that get students excited about learning. There are eight main focus's that are essential for these A Plus programs. All of these essentials are based on integrating the arts into everyday curriculum and Shelly provides plenty of ideas on how to do so throughout her blog posting. "Technology tools should be used to enhance and amplify student creativity" is a quote from Shelly. I never thought about technology in a way like that before. Schools nowadays have technology that is very accessible to students and teachers. Teachers need to utilize this advantage as much as possible! A great way in which Shelly utilizes iPad's is through the Book Creator App. Check out an example of a book made on the Book Creator App about Thanksgiving. Yet another great way that Shelly suggests to utilize technology in the classroom is through QR codes. These QR codes are great to use for young students. Once the student scans the QR codes that the teacher has created specifically for them, then they are only brought to that specific website. This is safe for students, because they won't be going to any inappropriate websites or videos online. Shelly Fryer even uses simple websites like YouTube that we are all familiar with to enrich student learning. While reading this post, not only did I learn a lot of great tips for how to integrate technology into every day classroom experiences, but I also learned things about the basic's of an iPad that I had no clue about! I learned that the three dots you that appear when you want to share or save a document on the iPad is called the Hamburger Tool. This blog reading has enlightened me on multiple different things; from the basics of an iPad to several ways on how to integrate apps and websites into the classroom curriculum.
